This was the sign that greeted visitors to Yarkhun when we arrived on our first visit in 1991. Due to its proximity to the Wakhan Corridor in Afghanistan, and the easy nature of the mountain passes from Chitral into that long troubled land, the entire area was closed to foreigners for many decades. We were the first foreigners to reach Boroghil since Wilfred Thesiger in 1953.
